The Asian Studies Program at St. Lawrence University offers a variety of academic options for students. Currently, Asian Studies is offered as either a combined major or as an academic minor.
The Asian Studies Program is committed to providing students with increased knowledge about and appreciation of Asia, its cultures, histories, and economies.
Asian Studies faculty teach in a wide range of departments, from Government and Economy, Global Studies and History, to Anthropology, Languages, Religious Studies and the Fine Arts. Many of our faculty have traveled to Asia in the last several years, and are enthusiastic about offering new Asian Studies courses. St. Lawrence offers exciting opportunities for students to live and study in Asia as well. Students can apply for our programs in China, India or Japan.
St. Lawrence offers an Asian Studies minor, as well as combined majors with Government, History, and Religious Studies. Throughout the year, our program sponsors activities and events such a concert by Indian drummers, field trips to a Hindu Temple in Montreal, a celebration of the Hindu Festival of Lights, Japanese films, and curated show of contemporary Korean art in our Gallery. At such events, you may well meet up with community people and local school children, as we are committed to making Asia-related events available to the wider community.
Asian Studies courses are offered through the Government, History, Japanese Language, Modern Languages & Literature, and Religious Studies Departments.
